Allergy or intolerance / sensitivity?

People often describe themselves as having a food allergy when what they are experiencing is an intolerance.

A true allergy is an immune response where the body identifies an item as an intruder and creates IgE antibodies. Symptoms can develop rapidly and can include: shortness of breath; hives on the skin; and upset stomach. In severe cases, people can go into anaphylactic shock and require urgent medical attention.  This type of reaction is commonly associated with nuts and shellfish.

A food sensitivity or intolerance is an adverse reaction to a food that does not involve the immune response (IgE). It is much more common than a food allergy and involves antibodies that provide long-term resistance to infections, called IgG, Symptoms can take time to show – even several days – and can include: digestive problems, bloating and discomfort, migraines, obesity, chronic fatigue, aches and pain, skin problems, behavioural issues and many other symptoms.

How does this test compare to a blood test?

A double-blind study from a clinical pool of 1,800 patients comparing this method of testing with blood chemistry yielded a 97% correlation with blood chemistry. Our test is also non-invasive, more cost effective and simple to carry out, in person or with a hair sample.
